Found: Fresh food on the go

The Pioneer Business Park in East Syracuse has a new addition amidst its concrete buildings. The Stir: Mobile Eatery, one of Syracuse’s first food trucks, is bringing local, fresh ingredients to town. The truck, run by Dave Marnell, Jr., Rob Sansone and Sebastian Backer, can be found serving a variety of items Monday through Friday usually between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
While it is normally parked at 5000 Campuswood Drive, sometimes a little search is necessary. However, the men behind The Stir post location, menu and hours daily on Twitter and Facebook and send text updates to clients. The food truck caters events as well as serving lunch.
Rob Sansone, one of the mobile’s chefs, said the truck has quite a fan base. And he believes The Stir’s dedication to “local first, organic second” has aided in the buildup of followers.
At the bottom of the menu and on the side of the truck is a list of the local farms and markets where The Stir makes its purchases, such as Drover Hill Farms, Lively Run Goat Dairy, Sunset Hill Farms, Aquavita Farms and Mario’s Bakery.
Backer and Sansone agree that finding the farmers and building those relationships is an important aspect of running the food truck. From finding ingredients, to finding the truck, to finding a fan base, The Stir: Mobile Eatery has definitely found a home in East Syracuse.
