Lost: Memories stolen, not forgotten
By Adam Matula
Richard Musa has been dealing with heartache since his wife died two years ago.
A burglary at his Florida home this May intensified that heartache.
While Musa was vacationing in Central New York on Oneida Lake, something he and his wife had done every summer for 40 years, someone broke into his home in Boca Raton, Fla. This isn’t the first time a burglar has stolen things from Musa. His home was burglarized 10 years ago, and the case took eight years to go to trial.
“Just about a year and a half ago they called me and said they wanted my wife to appear in court and I said, well she’s passed away,” said Musa. The county attorney’s office called Musa shorty after to tell him the burglar was sentenced to only six months in jail.
In the recent theft in May, a thief stole a safe from Musa’s home that contained many valuable and sentimental items.
“I was really surprised that I had a break in, really I didn’t expect it,” said Musa. “Those things are gone now, that’s for sure, I’ll never get them back.”
