Found: Retail shopping at Andy’s Produce

Andy Boucounis, owner of Andy’s Produce & Food Service, decided to try something new in July 2013.
Boucounis’ new space, Andy’s Produce Cash & Carry, now allows the public to purchase fresh ingredients for a decent price, ranging from dairy to produce to proteins.
“We deliver about a hundred mile radius physically and then we also ship into metro New York, Connecticut and New Jersey,” he said.
Boucounis, 54, established the wholesale business in 1976, and has provided numerous items to restaurants such as Dinosaur Bar-B-Que and Empire Brewing Co. Boucounis buys his items directly from the farm and from all over the world, including South America.
Boucounis decided to open his business to the public because he wants people to buy fresh products for a reasonable price, he said.
“When I go shopping to stores, when I see some of the prices and the lack of quality of things, it kind of perturbs me a bit,” he said.
His new venture has been going well.
“So far, we’re pretty happy,” Boucounis said six weeks after he opened the new space to the public.
Customers may enter the front of his warehouse at 101 Court St. to browse and purchase items.
